Cleansing is an ancient and sacred ceremony, so it is best to perform it with full awareness and in a slow, mindful manner. Even the happiest homes accumulate negative vibrations over time. Many people find it helpful to cleanse their home several times a year. Some might cleanse their space every day.
To get started with cleansing, place a fireproof dish on a table, desk, or any other appropriate surface with your preferred cleansing stick. While holding your cleansing stick light the end of it with a match or lighter, then gently wave it in the air until the tip begins to smolder.
You can use a feather to blow the smoke around the room if you have one, but it is usually sufficient to simply wave your hand through the air to gently waft smoke where you want it. Remind yourself to stay connected to your breathing throughout your cleansing session.
Move in a clockwise direction around your house (usually starting at the front door), and gently wave the smoke into the air as you move. Spend a bit more time cleansing all the corners of each room, as they tend to accumulate stagnant energy. Be sure to also open the closet doors and carefully cleanse inside. Do not forget about spaces such as the laundry room, the garage, and the basement.
When you have cleansed all areas of your house, return to the starting point and monitor your cleansing stick until it is extinguished or place it heat safe dish or pot.
It is best to perform your cleansing at a time when you will not be disturbed. It will allow you to create a sense of ceremony or ritual, allow yourself at least 10 to 15 minutes.
